Astran Cargo Services Ltd have launched a new division providing worldwide shipping services.   Astran Worldwide Shipping was opened officially by Tracey Crouch on Friday 13th 2012 with a "cutting of the cake" (see photo right) and with the local MP having the controls of a forklift. (middle photo above)

Astran at the IFW Awards - and on the road to growth

The directors of Astran used the opportunity of the IFW awards in London to set out their vision of growing by natural growth and acquisition in the coming year. Astran was proud to sponsor the Heavy Lift Category. The event showed the remarkable tenacity and resilience of the UK freight forwarding community in the face of unprecedented economic gloom and uncertainty. We were particularly pleased that the winners of our sponsored award played a significant role in the aftermath of the Japanese Earthquake.

The first overland trips - How the legend started

On Wednesday 29 April 1964 the 2 medically trained novice drivers, Woodman and Paul, made their way out of London to the docks to begin their journey to Kabul.

Their first problem arose even before leaving the country when they rolled to an unplanned stop. A lorry pulled up and the driver told them they’d run out of diesel. As none of the gauges worked properly on the dashboard they said they weren’t to know. The driver gave them a spare can of fuel, and told them they just had to bleed it through and they’d be rolling in no time. The only bleeding they understood about was in their medical world.

The driver stayed to help and asked where they were going. When they said Kabul, he stared up at the trailer with his mouth wide open and said ‘you’re f.....g mad’.
